Helping Hands

These helping hand sculptures combine functionality with visual appeal. These sculptures are designed in the shape of hands, each one with its own unique form, that can be used to hold a variety of items such as keys, loose change, or even kitchen utensils. These sculptures are not only decorative but also serve a practical purpose, providing an elegant and functional solution to holding items. Each piece is handcrafted and made with attention to detail, ensuring that each sculpture is one-of-a-kind.

To ensure the most accurate and detailed representation of the hand sculptures, I decided to use alginate as the moulding material. Alginate is known for its ability to capture fine details and textures, making it the perfect choice for capturing the intricate and unique qualities of each hand sculpture. By using alginate, I was able to ensure that each mould was as accurate and precise as possible, resulting in the final sculptures being highly detailed.

Adding Final Touches

The next step in the process was to carefully extract the plaster hands from the alginate moulds. This was a delicate task as it required a steady hand to ensure that the details and textures captured in the moulds were not damaged during the removal process. Once the plaster hands were free from the moulds, any blemishes or imperfections were corrected using slip plaster. After all necessary repairs were made, the hands were given a final finish by sealing them with a coat of white spray paint. This not only added a smooth and polished look to the sculptures but also protected them from any future damage.
