Exploring States of Consciousness:
Concept and Design:
The diorama focuses on four primary elements, each representing a different stage of consciousness:
Sleep State: Illustrated by a blue outline of a girl's face in the foreground, symbolizing tranquillity and peace essential for quality sleep.
Dream State: Depicted by the black and white mountains in the middle ground, representing the stable and fixed aspects of dreams, with birds flying freely to signify their unpredictable nature.
NREM Sleep: The clear background serves as a representation of the first stage of NREM sleep and the waking state of consciousness.
Lightness and Freedom: Birds reappear against the clear background, symbolizing the airy sensation experienced during NREM sleep.
A Multi-Layered Acrylic Diorama
This project aimed to create a visual diorama that represents the various stages of consciousness we experience as humans. By combining different elements such as color, shape, and symbolism, the diorama invites viewers to explore the fascinating complexities of the human mind and the experiences we have throughout the day and night.
Conceptualization
Initial Ideation:
The design process began with rough ideations to visualize the diorama's layout and possible elements.
Laser Cutting
Adobe Illustrator:
Next, outlines of the elements were created and refined using Adobe Illustrator.
Layout Planning
Different layouts were experimented with using cardboard as a substitute for the exterior pieces, helping to finalize the desired layout.
Final Assembly
The diorama was assembled using a combination of resin bonding and slotting techniques, ensuring seamless integration of each component.
